Celebrating Abilities
Meet Sid – “With Dundaloo staff support I have learnt skills that help me maintain my independence and do things I want to do at home and in the community. I have been supported to budget, which has given me the opportunity to purchase a new flat screen smart TV, along with getting the internet connected; plus buying new games to keep me occupied when I want to just stay home and chill. I have purchased a new top quality mountain bike to get around the community independently.
Meet Duschka – “I like cooking for my housemates, I talk to my housemates and go through recipe books to choose meals. I like to try new dishes and try different things. I like to feel independent and I do the shopping and all the planning myself with the support of staff”.
Meet Alan – “With Dundaloo staff support I have learnt skills to do everyday things for myself. I make my own appointments to get my haircut. I am becoming very confident in my community. I choose where I would like to go for lunch and what places in the area I would like to visit. I enjoy my supported cooking times twice a week and I am becoming very confident in the kitchen, I will choose what I would like to cook, I am also supported to write a shopping list and then go to the shops to buy the ingredients and then I am supported to cook a meal for myself and my wife. I really enjoy cooking meals for my family.
Meet Teila – “As I prepare to compete internationally at the Special Olympics World Summer Games I am showing that I have the ability to achieve success and personal dreams. I train and work hard to make my dreams a possibility and I know in Abu Dhabi I will be celebrating achievement and inclusion with 7000 international athletes”.
