The NDIS will deliver life-long, individualised support to people living with a disability. It has been designed to deliver choice and control for you as they decide what supports and services they receive.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the new way of providing support for Australians with disability, their families and carers.

The NDIS will deliver life-long, individualised support to people living with a disability. It has been designed to deliver choice and control for you as they decide what supports and services they receive.

Dundaloo Support Services strongly supports the NDIS as a system that empowers people living with a disability to choose a life that is meaningful to them. We support the rights for all people to have equal participation and opportunity to reach their potential.

1. Am I eligible?

There are a few important requirements you need to meet so you can receive funding under the NDIS. These relate to your age and whether you meet the criteria for disability support.

Answer the questions on the NDIS Access Checklist to check your eligibility.

ADVOKIT – NDIS has been developed by Disability Advocacy Network Australia Limited (DANA) to support advocacy for people with disabilities in connection with the NDIS. They can also provide information about becoming a participant.

2. Start thinking about your needs and goals

It’s a good idea to think about your needs, dreams and goals before you meet with your NDIS planner. You can choose to have family or other important people support you in your planning.

We can support you through the planning process:

  • We have produced two booklets What I Do Every Day and My Life to make it easy for you to think about the supports you want and need – now and into the future. It is important to think about what you enjoy doing, your work, your outings and day to day household tasks so the supports you need are included in your plan. We can tell you what other supporting documentation you need to take to the NDIS planning meeting.
  • We can offer pre-planning meetings to support you to complete the booklets. Staff at DSS are trained to support you through this process.
  • You can call Tracey on 6551 4214 to arrange a meeting to step you through the pre-planning process.
  • You can email Tracey on ndis@dundaloo.org.au to arrange a meeting to step you through the pre-planning process or to have your questions answered.

3. Meet with you planner and develop your plan

Your NDIS planner will contact you to arrange a meeting. Take your completed pre-planning booklets and other supporting documentation like reports from medical professionals. We will have discussed this with you at the pre-planning meeting. The NDIS planner will discuss your goals, your support needs and services you currently receive and those you would like to receive in the future.

4. Put your plan into action

You decide what service providers’ best suit your needs and how you will put your plan into action. We can support you to bring all your supports together into a weekly schedule (see Coordination of Supports). You will also choose how you want to manage your funding.

5. Review your Plan

You will review your plan with your NDIS planner at agreed review dates, usually about every 12 months, to see what’s working and what’s not. If your circumstances change you can request a review at any time.

We can support you to prepare for your review when it is scheduled. See below for Pre-Planning information.

Pre Planning

To support service users get ready to talk to their NDIS planner, the Dundaloo Support Services in consultation with service users and family members have developed a Pre Planning Pack. This consists of an introduction letter, and information sheet and the ‘What I do everyday’ and ‘My Life’ workbooks. These workbooks are developed in a style that is user friendly and supports a variety of communication styles.
